Apparently concerned that tax credits that won’t take effect until some hypothetical future budget-balancing occurs were too concrete, Harper is now promising to keep not doing things that the government already wasn’t doing beforehand. (via defeatist)

Not entirely true: David Pugliese from Postmedia has been reporting on the possibility of a transferring command of the Pacific fleet from Esquimalt to Halifax. This would be an odd way to celebrate 100 years of the Royal Canadian Navy - Esquimalt and Halifax were the first two bases in 1911.

I admit it. I envy Strand’s immense passion for Niagara. I want to feel her sense of amazement and enthusiasm, or at least something other than the surprisingly world-weary cynicism I’d felt about the place when growing up there, or the polite interest I’ve shown it since as an academic. I set off wanting to fall in love with Niagara.
